Press Release
Suceava County Council, the Main Partner of Rugby Club Gura Humorului, the Only Team from Suceava County Competing in Romania's Top Rugby League
Suceava County Council continues to support high-performance sport in the county and today signed a new funding agreement with Rugby Club Gura Humorului under the provisions of Law no. 350/2005 during a ceremony held at the Administrative Palace.
Rugby Club Gura Humorului is the only team from Suceava County competing in the Kaufland Rugby League, Romania's top-tier rugby competition, where it faces the strongest clubs in the country.
The funding granted by Suceava County Council for the project "Rugby in Bucovina – Visibility, Development and Community Engagement" amounts to 415,000 RON.
Vice President of Suceava County Council Nicolae Robu stated that supporting Rugby Club Gura Humorului is part of the development strategy promoted by the county administration led by Gheorghe Șoldan, aimed at providing meaningful support for sport in Suceava County.
"Suceava County Council stands alongside Rugby Club Gura Humorului, a young team with tremendous potential that proudly represents our county in one of the strongest competitions in Romanian rugby.
We fully understand how difficult it is to sustain a rugby club at this level. Without proper support, it would be extremely challenging for the club to compete in a league where operating costs are high, travel is demanding and opponents benefit from long traditions and significant budgets.
That is why we are committed to supporting rugby in Suceava County. We cannot turn our backs on performance, nor can we ignore the dedication of those who continue to keep alive a beautiful, noble sport that has received far too little financial support over the years."

Rugby Club Gura Humorului currently has 24 registered senior players, 23 of whom are under the age of 23. The funded project supports the club's participation in the Kaufland Rugby League and the Romanian Rugby Cup, while also covering training activities, home matches, away fixtures and community rugby promotion initiatives.
Nicolae Robu also recalled that, since the beginning of the current county administration's mandate, Suceava County Council has supported county rugby for the first time, backing both the club in Suceava and Rugby Club Gura Humorului, including projects promoting rugby among children and young people.
Rugby Club Gura Humorului President Gabriela Andronache thanked Suceava County Council for its continued support and highlighted the importance of collaboration between public institutions and the sports sector.
"For many years, Rugby Club Gura Humorului was one of the very few senior rugby clubs in Romania supported exclusively through private funding. It proved that passion, discipline and trust can build a strong sporting project even when resources are limited.
Today, our journey has entered a new stage. The financial support offered by Suceava County Council under the leadership of Mr. Gheorghe Șoldan confirms the importance of investing in sport and local communities while demonstrating a clear commitment to sustainable development.
I strongly believe that meaningful achievements happen when public authorities and civil society work together. This partnership creates the foundation for stability, growth and long-term success.
For our club, it means the opportunity to continue developing young people, strong characters and athletes who will carry forward the spirit of rugby.
We thank everyone within Suceava County Council for their trust and for choosing to become part of our journey. Together, we can build a strong rugby community that inspires future generations and leaves a lasting legacy."
